Here is some good news for International students applying to study in an eligible Canadian educational institution. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced measures to increase the number of authorized work hours for international students. Applicable from November 15, 2022, the new rules allow international students in Canada who have off-campus work authorization on their study permit to work over the 20 hour per week limit.

Why did Canada bring in this new rule?
Canada is presently dealing with historic labour shortages and a historically low unemployment rate. The unemployment rate fell from 5.4% in August 2022 to 5.2% in September 2022. The country now has around one million job vacancies, which gravely impacts its economy during global economic crises.

The new move will allow over 500,000 eligible international students presently in Canada to work more hours.

Why study in Canada?
Canada is among the top destinations for international students. The nation hosted 620,000+ global students in 2021. The constantly growing number has tripled in the last two decades. Last year alone, Canada issued around 450,000 new study permits. The study abroad aspirants in Canada are consistently growing year on year.

The quality of Canada’s educational institutions, the affordability of the Canadian dollar, multiculturalism, and its work and permanent residence opportunities all contribute to the country’s high preference among students.
