Entry Criteria to Study in New Zealand

New Zealand Universities mainly offer Feb and July intakes. However, the institutes and ITP’s there offer multiple intakes across the year. To study in New Zealand, you need to show:

  • Need to have relevant academic qualification
  • Valid English test scores such as IELTS. English score requirement varies from level to level.
  • Your genuine intentions to study in New Zealand.
  • Evidence of sufficient funds to cover your living expenses throughout the period of your stay. You will need to show NZ$ 15,000 for a full year of study.

Post-Study Work Rights in New Zealand

With effect from 2018, the Government of New Zealand, following a public consultation, has ushered in changes to immigration policies that impact post-study work rights for international students – Level 4 to 6, and non-degree Level 7 qualifications:

  • Level 4 to 6 and non-degree Level 7 qualifications:
    • A one-year open work visa is applicable. However, those who pursue their education outside Auckland can get a two-year open work visa.
  • Bachelor level qualifications:

o   A three-year open work visa is applicable.

  • Post-graduate level qualifications:

o   A three-year open work visa is applicable.
